Aarstidernes farm in Humlebæk, Krogerup Home Farm, is the setting for experiences and instruction, offering school classes the opportunity to participate in the project 'Haver til Maver' (literally, from gardens to stomachs). Pupils are invited to cultivate their own gardens and cook food in an outdoor kitchen, or to pay a one-day visit to get an insight into the countryside and cookery. The purpose of the project is for children to understand where produce comes from and to involve them in the process of making the food they eat.

Kalundborg: Industrial Symbiosis - Waste makes resource

Kalundborg is a medium-sized town on the north-west coast of Zealand, 105km from Copenhagen, home to 16,500 residents and host to the world's most well known example of industrial ecology; Industrial Symbiosis. The motivation for exchange arose in the early 1970s from a mutual effort to reduce costs by seeking income-producing uses for "waste" products.

Samsoe: A role model in self-sufficiency

In 1997, Samsoe won a competition launched by the Danish Ministry of the Environment to become Denmark's Renewable Energy Island. Interested participants were provided small amounts of money to complete their proposals. Samsoe won with a 10-year plan aiming at 100% self-sufficiency in renewable energy by 2008.

Copenhagen - Pocket parks, a drop of urban green

Copenhagen has a vision of becoming the capital city in the world with the best urban environment by 2015. The enhancement of urban green is one of the tools for reaching this vision. Within the next 7 years, the municipality will establish 14 pocket parks throughout the city and plant 3,000 trees to create green streets and connections. The goal is that 90 % of all Copenhageners by 2015 can walk to a park, a beach or a harbour bath in less than 15 minutes.

Copenhagen: Cities can run on wind energy

In 2000, the city of Copenhagen took part in a large offshore wind farm project two kilometres off the city's coastline. The project is based on a partnership between the municipality and local shareholders.
Wind energy is not the energy source that immediately springs to mind when thinking about renewable energy in cities. Few cities have enough space within their area to build large wind farms. It is more common to find small wind turbines on suitable locations or even on buildings.
