Green Urban Transformers
Predictions of the future climate in Denmark point out that we will be seeing more and more extreme weather events such as thunderstorms and floods. If we are not prepared, this could have significant implications for both nature and society. Specialists knowing how to prevent, manage, and adapt to these new conditions will be in great demand in near future.
Therefore, an increasing number of practical and academic training programs, course, and supplementary educations are emerging, all of them offering teaching and know-how in various aspects of climate change adaptation. New training programs in climate change adaptation such as Master of Disaster Management, Garden and Park Engineering, and Green Urban Transformers (GUTS), are just some of the new training programmes offered in Denmark on climate change management.
Beging in November the supplementary education program GUTS - Green Urban Transformers - is offered at the School of Architecture in Aarhus. The program is based on a ”state-of-the-art” knowledge meaning that several inputs and best practice cases from Denmark and the rest of the world are presented as the foundation that architects, urban planners and other praticiners in realted fields can learn from due to manage the future urban challenges regarding the climate changes.
The goal of the course is to promote sustainable comprehensive planning by introducing concrete tools and guidelines that apply for the urban space, the environment, and the landscape as such. Among the invited guestspeakers are Søren Smidt-Jensen, who is the project manager of Sustainable Cities™ at the Danish Architecture Centre.
