Criteria

The Sustainable Cities™ database presents a range of carefully selected cases.

Sustainable Cities was launched at the 11th International Architecture Biennale in Venice in September 2008, where the first 25 best practice cases were presented. In late 2010, the database had more than 140 cases from all over the world, and new cases are continually added.

The criteria for the initial selection of the cases are:

  • educational and inspirational (best practise cases with a learning aspect)
  • thematic (divided into 12 categories)
  • broad range of issues within each category

The database builds on a 3-legged sustainability concept (social – economic – environmental).

We encourage readers to comment on the cases, blogs and interviews.
