New old trees in Ørestad
In these days, trees that have previously been standing in the inner city area of Vesterbro are being re-planted in Ørested City Park. The oldest trees come from Vasbygade in Vesterbro where they were to be cut down due to the building of the Metro City Ring. Instead, 15 of them have been saved and will be re-planted in Ørestad City Park. The roots of the trees alone can weigh more than 4 tonnes. The rest of the trees come from a garden centre where they have grown so big that not even the garden centre is able to move them.
The houseowner's association of Ørestad City is in charge of the deal about the new old trees. "It has long been a big aspiration to many users of the city park to have more trees. This is now fulfilled by the planting of some relatively large trees. Now we are looking forward to see what the park looks like when the trees are in blossom," says chairman of the houseowner association, Esben Sloth. Within the new couple of weeks, 12 oak trees, 10 alder trees, 6 plane trees, 25 Norway maple, 9 wild cherry trees and 38 lime trees will be planted.
"When you develop from bare field as we do in Ørestad, you usually have to wait for a long time before there are big oak trees in your city park. Here, the houseowner's association got the opportunity to push development and get large trees long before expected. I am so excited about this. Besides, the initiative shows a strong local engagement where local stakeholders work to make the are an even better place to live," says managing director of By & Havn, Jens Kramer Mikkelsen. NORD Architects are employed by the local houseowner's association to be in charge of the landscape plan and the process.

"It is of great spatial and experienmental value that trees of this size can be planted in the city park. When planting the trees, a great deal of effort has gone into marking entrances and paths so that people walking in the park get a varied spatial experience. The trees will mainly be planted in groups of the same species to strengthen the spatial experience and give the tree planting its unique character," says landscape architect Kamilla Iversen from NORD.
The company Nordisk Træflyt is in charge of moving the trees. A special gardening machine with point shovel blades pulls up the trees with roots and re-plant them in their new setting.

Anna,
How is the process of removing and re-planting the trees?
Any indications of the toolsused? The photo is impressive and I'm interested to get in contact with the manufacturer of the tool.
Many thanks
Chris
